Yogurt Deep Conditioning Treatment Recipe

Alright, so I'm 21 1/2 weeks post relaxer right now... and like I've said before, I'm not planning on relaxing my hair until late January 2010. I have type 4 hair (some 4a and 4c but mostly 4B) so it's REALLY REALLY kinky and (to be frank) NAPPY! I have SOME coils in my hair as tight as the springs inside of a fine tipped retractable pen, some even tighter. In short: my NG (new growth) is a son of a mother! Because of that, I'm always in search of something (ANYTHING) to soften it up.

I'm a member of a few hair boards and I had read a little about deep conditioning with yogurt. I read a few archived threads about it and decided that I would try it myself.

So, about a week ago, I did. Here are my ingredients (I'm not the best measure-er... if I measure at all...)

1 heaping tbsp of Dannon Full Fat PLAIN yogurt
2 tbsp Suave Humectant Conditioner
a splash of EVOO aka extra virgin olive oil (maybe another tbsp??)
a squirt of honey (prob equal to about a tsp)
2 drops of lime juice

So I just mixed them together with a spoon in a little plastic bowl. It had the consistency of a watery conditioner... or, for the bakers out there, of a icing glaze that you would put on a pound cake (possibly).

Now, in my reading up on yogurt, I'd read more than one person say that the yogurt didn't go well with their relaxed ends. So when I applied it, I did it as I would a relaxer, only on my NG, by parting my hair into small sections. I left it on my hair for about 30 minutes (no heat) and rinsed it out... when I tell you my NG was SOFT AS BUTTER.... OMG, it was super duper soft... hairgasm!!

Afterwards, I did a mini DC focusing on my ends. I used my own concoction of VO5 Tea Therapy Blackberry Sage Tea Revitalizing Conditioner, EVCO (extra virgin coconut oil) and EVOO and let it sit on my hair for and hour (again, no heat... so if you wanna use a bonnet dryer, this would be equal to 15-20 minutes I think) and rinsed it out.

A week or so later, my hair STILL feels softer than usual. Now, the acid in the lime juice and in the yogurt have been said to relax the hair curl. I think I agree because my NG does seem to be stretched out a little bit more, but I wouldn't say that the process changed my hairtype! Now this treatment is full of protein so be careful not to overdo it, but I will DEF try it again.

Just wanted to share! =)
