1st Stretch FINALE!
Today, I prepared for my relaxer... I DC'd, clarified, did a light/medium protein treatment, and did a light moisturizing conditioning... then I moisturized the heck out of it and braided my hair in 4 braids... that's how it'll stay until Thursday.
My final thoughts on this stretch? It was a learning experience. I feel a lot more confident that I know what to do to my hair. And I'm proud of myself for maintaining these two textures w/o suffering from breakage and causing myself a setback. The key that I will tell to just about anyone who will listen is MOISTURE/PROTEIN BALANCE!!!! Seriously. It is definitely an art and not a science because hair is never predictable...
The single most thing that got me through my 7.5 month stretch was deep conditioning. Once I started DCing twice a week last month, it made ALL the difference in the manageability of my hair. It also cut down on the amount of hair that I was losing every wash-day.
Also, the fact that I've been limiting my usage of heat has made a difference, IMO... heat=stress and when you're dealing with two completely different textures of hair, that added stress can mean BREAKAGE...
I'm super excited to start all over again (though I only want to go to 16 wks for this next stretch).
I think anyone can stretch, there are just some sacrifices that you have to make and you have to be willing to put in the work... I'm not saying that it's easy (because it's not) but I fully believe that constantly stretching my relaxers is gonna get me to the head of healthy, relaxed hair that I desire!!!!
