Update: The importance of Challenges

Earlier in my hair journey, I will admit that I was a hair board challenge junkie. At one point I was closing in on actively being a part of TEN challenges! It was to the point that I was joining challenges for the sake of joining challenges! I felt that the camaraderie and "sisterhood" fostered during challenges would motivate me to remain steadfast in my journey.

Now that I'm a year into my hair journey (no longer a newbie but DEF not a vet!) I've realized that it might be more beneficial to limit the challenges that I am a part of.

There's nothing wrong with being selective, right? The main idea of a challenge is that it challenges you! (continued after the jump!)

Therefore you won't find me in any APL challenges this year... I'm almost there! I'm on to pushing for BSL and the true challenge of limiting the amount of heat I use on my strands!

Also, you have to know yourself...
  • Are you liable to trim/cut/dust throughout the year? Pay attention to the rules!
  • Are you a bandwagon jumper? Maybe short-term challenges are best for you!
  • Do you need tons of people to keep you motivated? That "super-popular-everyone-is-joining-wow!" challenge would probably work for you!
I guess the point is: use, do not abuse, challenges! They're a great way to make e-hair-friends BUT it might fall by the way-side if you don't pick the right one(s)!

  1. Wow, I never joined in any of the challenges, but I'm definately not going to heat style until BSL. Trying to save it for the wow-factor of BSL hair.

We'll be at bra-strap in no time!

  2. Yay, another BSL in 2011er!! When you you expect to make BSL?

  3. I'm going to say September 2011, just to be safe.

The products that I use are bought with my own money unless other wise stated and are for personal use. I am not paid to show any products on this blog! Results are on MY hair, but that does not guarantee that products/methods/techniques will work the same for you (though I HOPE they do!!) Happy Hair Growing!!
