Just call me a H.O.T. girl!!

So lately, I haven't been treating my hair the best... I've used some heat, gone to bed without covering it, etc (boo-loving will do that to you sometimes.... O_O)

Tonight, I came home from work and was like "what can I do to make it up to my hair and get it back on track??" and then it hit me like a truck: a hot oil treatment!

I have never incorporated hot oil treatments into my regimen (though I experimented with oil rinses back in summer 2010). However, it seemed like the best thing to do for my strands.

Hot oil treatments infuse the hair with moisture and help to restore luster and shine. They also contribute to softer, healthier hair. Also, for those of you with dry, flakey scalps, H.O.T.'s can reduce or even eliminate that problem (quick tip: if you do have a dry scalp, try adding a few drops of pure Tea Tree oil to a carrier oil as your H.O.T.!).

Some women swear by hot oil treatments, while others (like myself) do them occasionally (as needed)... but H.O.T.'s are also a great way to pre-poo!

My oil combo of choice has been castor oil (for thickness) and EVOO (to get rid of it haha)

Do you do hot oil treatments? What are your oils of choice? How has it helped your hair over time?

  1. The last time I did a hot oil treatment was maybe a month ago. I left it on overnight (hmmm maybe that makes it an oil rinse lol) and my hair felt amazing. I used an EVOO oil mixture.

I used to do them all the time when my hair was relaxed...maybe I should try them more often now (:

  2. I used to religiously do hot oil treatments (V05 or my own mix) but as I got older and started running out of time I just do an oil treatment...minus the hot. I put EVOO on my hair the night before I do a deep conditioning treatment, but now thats only about once a month.

  3. I used to do a hot oil prepoo every week when I first started my hair journey. I would use a mixture of VCO, EVOO, and honey. I stopped because they were so messy, lol.

I'm like you. I don't do them so much anymore but I definitely whip out the ingredients when the mood strikes!

s/n: cute how the acronym for hot oil treatment spells out the word "hot." LOL

  4. I love hot oil treatments. I've going doing one every wash day since the end of January with grapeseed oil. Love it because split ends have decrease, my hair is smoother, and decreased breakage. HOTs are a keeper for me.

  5. When my hair is feeling dry, especially in the Summer, i do a hot oil treatment with Lisa's Hair Elixir by Carols Daughter. It's a mixture of rosemary, peppermint, jojoba and many others. I know a lot of people mix their own oils, but the product comes with a variety, which I like.
