Product Review: ORS Olive Oil Smooth-n-Hold Pudding

What they say: Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Smooth-n-Hold Pudding Moisturizing Gel moisturizes, shines, and holds the hair. This light weight non-sticky pudding leaves a smooth and shiny hold while moisturizing the hair. Olive Oil Smooth-n-Hold Pudding is an alcohol-free formula that won't dry the hair or cause flaking.

Ingredients: Water, Coconut Oil, Mineral Oil, Polyquaternium-11, Glycerin, Sodium Cetearyl Sulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polysorbate-60, PEG-150 Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20, PEG-20, Hydrogenated Lanolin, PEG-40 Stearate, Aloe Leaf Juice, Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Phenyl Trimethicone, PEG-12, Dimethicone, Oleth-20, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, DMDM Hydantoin, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methyllisothiazolinone, Fragrance, Benzyl Benzoate, Citronellol, d-Limonene, Eugenol, Geraniol,  Hexyl, Cinnamal, Lilial, Linalool, Methyl Ionone, Dyes.

What I say: A lot of people have steered clear of this product simply because of some down-right "no-no" questionable ingredients. I was actually quite ignorant of the ingredients and just purchased the product on a spending binge (keeping it honest!). I honestly LOVE this stuff. When I finally read the ingredients I was absolutely shocked to see the devil Mineral Oil as the third ingredient it wasn't enough to deter me.
I use this product in several ways:
  1. To "lay down" my edges. (sleek buns alllll the time!)
  2. To provide extra hold for my braid/twist/bantu knot outs.
  3. To set twists (for my boo's natural hair)
It is phenomenal in each role! AND it lives up to all of ORS's promises!! My hair doesn't feel dry over time (a symptom of regular use of mineral oil). I've been using it for over 6 months and I have not one bad word to say about this stuff!

It gets 5 stars from me!

  1. Thanks for the review. When this product dries in your hair, how would you describe the hold?

  2. Nice review. If I ever ran out of my BM curly butter this would definitely be a product I'd purchase from the store. My girl absolutely loves it.

  3. I always wanted to try this stuff. Have you ever tried Olive Oil Edge Control. It works great, plus it doesn't have mineral oil in it.

  4. Thanks for the review. I had a sample size that came with the relaxer. Although It didn't WOW" me, after reading your post you have convinced me to revisit this product.

  5. @MHHJ I would say its a flexible hold... but it definitely helps my braid-outs stay more defined for longer periods of time.

@Relaxed Hair Diary: yes, I've tried the Edge Control but I don't really like it as much... it hasn't worked very well for my coarse, 4B edges!!

@LivingPink08: try it again and let me know how it works for you!!
