Flakey, gross scalp issues=POSTPONED RELAXER!

So... I had plans to relax my hair earlier today but when I was basing my scalp last night I found a terrible issue of the flaky persuasion on my scalp!!!

I had my SO take pictures (which I won't post because they are so gross and I already deleted them from my phone...!) and after assessing the situation, I decided that my scalp was in no condition to withstand a relaxer (bummer! I'm 12 weeks post and ready for the creamy crack!! But I definitely learned my lesson last year...)

My plan is to wait for two weeks and really baby my scalp (as I have no idea when/how/when the dandruff monster arose...) I will:
  1. Oil my scalp every other day to keep it lubricated... I might try to find some tea tree oil to infuse my oil mix with...
  2. Up my co-washing to 1-2 times a week
  3. ???
And that's it... I need suggestions ladies...

What do you do when your scalp is misbehaving? Any suggestions?

♥,

  1. My scalp went through a horrible phase this summer, big gross flakes (SD) intense itchiness). I had to postone my relaxer many times due to my scalp issues. What finally helped me was pre-pooing and scalp massages with mix of coconut, tea-tree oil, eucalyptus oil, and lavender oil (i recently added vitamin e oil). I hope this helps and that you're scalp improves!! Here's the post I did on it: http://www.justgrowalready.com/2011/08/current-oil-mix.html

  2. AWWWWW man! So glad you "listened" to your scalp! I like Jeni's advice and the only other thing I would add is to drink lots of water.

  3. Sorry to hear about your scalp issues. I'm also glad you listened to your scalp. My only advice is to avoid scratching your scalp at all costs for the next week or two.. If you haven't already, it seems a good clarify/chelating is in order

  4. @Jeni THANK YOU!! I just ordered some tea tree oil, lavender oil, and eucalyptus oil... I plan on infusing some coconut oil with them (as you suggested) and do some scalp massages until I get it under control. I'll update you guys.

@ECP: yup, I have upped my water too, thanks!!

@MHHJ: YES!! I have used regular shampoo, but I am out of my clarifying 'poo. I am definitely going to pick some up shortly.
