Why I've decided to extend my stretch--INDEFINITELY!

Don't call it a transition!

Not sure if this is a way to put my head in the sand regarding my setback (the extent of which I STILL haven't assessed.... *sigh*) but something in my spirit is telling me to not relax. My reasoning is that I have a few sensitive patches in the back of my head and I don't want to cause any damage (yes, I'm extremely gunshy now...). Additionally, I'm just a lazy bum!

Secretly, I think I'm more in love with my new growth than my relaxed hair right now... #thehoneymoonisover!

So until further notice (could be a couple of days, weeks, months.......... err.....) I'll be putting off my next touch-up...

Have you ever just NOT felt like relaxing your hair? What was the outcome (e.g. transition, big chop, looooooong stretch)?

  1. That's exactly where I'm at now. I'm currently 8 months post and extending my stretch until the end of the year. I have to get a major trim because my ends look crazy so I'm trying to obtain as much length as possible. As of now, I don't know if I'll relax in December but that's the current plan.

  2. I'm also contemplating on the same thing. If by 30 weeks I don't relax, then am good for a long transition.

    1. IDK why I thought you were already natural!!! But 30 weeks is a good time table... usually at that time you can do a mini-chop and still have a good length of hair left...

  3. I'm enjoying the texture of my new growth but there is so much hair to be lost if I cut off my relaxed ends so that the relaxer will return soon. I'm just happy my hair is healthy and doing well on this stretch.

    1. I think losing all the length is the biggest thing that has always stopped me from transitioning... I'm glad that your stretch is going well, though!

  4. I have definitely felt that way before. I had no intention of stretching my last relaxer to 16 weeks but I was really enjoying my new growth and I was also experiencing a sensitive scalp. So I held off. Happy stretching!

  5. I have had that "I am sick of relaxing feeling" - for me it passed! lol. I can completely understand why you are feeling this way and your NG curls are pretty nice. I'll be watching to see what happens!

    1. LOL, two days later and I'm starting to feel "ready" but still very lazy...

I'm 99% sure that I will relax again though, like I said, "DON'T CALL IT A TRANSITION!"

    1. LOL, girl me too! I'm sure I'll end up touching up in the coming weeks (maybe after some hardcore PSing...)

  7. The last time I stretched my relaxer, (5 months) I ended up doing the big chop and going natural. That was in 2009 and only had one relaxer that entire year and maybe three the year prior.

  8. I was happily relaxed, but I never really felt like relaxing. It was just so much time and effort to do something that I knew was ultimately damaging to my hair after stretching for 6 moths or so. I've finally decided to transition.
